The geological uncertainty

The uncertainties related to geothermal district heating production primarily lies in the construction of the plant, where as the economic uncertainties related to most other forms of district heating production are related to the operational phase.

To reduce the technical and economical uncertainties and related economical losses, geothermal energy plants are constructed in phases, and the geological conditions are reassessed in each phase, based on new knowledge gained in the previous phase or phases. Through this, the best possible basis for deciding whether or not to continue into the next phase is gained.
